The 6th edition of Make Music Lagos gradually comes to a close with Tayor Doofs emerging winner of the MTN Best Cover Challenge, in “My Song is your Song competition”.

Artists around the world were invited to the second annual global swap to learn a song by another artist and vice versa.

Now in its sixth year, Make Music Lagos unifies events all over Lagos for diverse musical events across multiple physical and virtual locations in Lagos to collectively feature major artists in the music scene.

This year’s celebration of World Music Day witnessed an array of exciting musical events such as the MTN Live from home concert, New music marathon, Pop-up worship, Music Business Conference, and the Shutdown concert amongst others.

The just-concluded MTN Best Cover Challenge saw the top 8 contestants display their musical prowess as they swapped songs with international artists, following which Tayor Doofs emerged the winner, by scoring the highest number of votes.

Other contestants in the best cover challenge include Davina Abdul, who sang “Jellyfishes” by J.Lyn music and ETRNL music. J.Lyn in turn sang her version of Davina Abdul’s “Tonight”. Olawale Osewa did a cover of Jason Lyles “The Fight”, IAM_Jebosko swapped a song with American sensational artist, Sarahcoco by singing “Coffeeblack” while she did a cover of his song “Smile”. Official J Swing swapped his song “Conqueror” with a cover of “Catwalk music”, Jugo Aces swapped songs with Nyali music.

Make Music Lagos is the global celebration of World Music Day, held annually on June 21. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it has become a celebration held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities across 120 countries. It is open to everyone, regardless of age or skill level. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people from across the world transform their city into a musical paradise.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is a multi-venue event, open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician, young and old, amateur, and professional, of every musical persuasion, shares their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free, un-ticketed, and open to the public.

In 2016, Make Music Day activities found another unique home in Lagos Nigeria, and has since organized over 100 musical events and over 500 artists have performed on the Make Music Lagos platform.

In this year’s edition of Make Music Lagos, MTN Nigeria partnered with the Lagos State Government and Make Music Nigeria, to deliver memorable experiences through exciting event categories. Some of which include the MTN Live from home concert where talented artists like KhemmieSings, J’Dees, Bibicentric, David Operah, Idono, and others performed live on their Instagram pages. My Song is Your Song, The Music Business Conference amongst others.

Tayor Doofs won a complete home studio kit courtesy of MTN Nigeria and Showgear Online. He expressed joy and appreciation to the organisers of the event and was especially grateful to be the proud owner of a complete home studio kit.
