Contrary to claims in certain quarters, societynow.ng confirmed that it was not the killing by a Nigerian that sparked off the latest Xenophobia attacks in South Africa.

‘’The killing was done by a Tanzania and it occurred as a form of self-defense’’ societynow.ng learned.

The further revelation made available revealed that the pistol of a South Africa policeman was used for the shooting.

‘’Some South Africans who are local thugs operating as transport unionists descended on the Tanzanian and started beating him for no cause, there are fond of doing that and to other nationals and extorting the victims. The beatings got so bad that the policemen nearby stepped in, it was in the cause of the intervention by the police and unabated beating that the Tanzanian drew a policeman’s gun and shot one of the South African’s’’ a source in South Africa narrated.

The incident happened in Pretoria societynow.ng learned.

The Tanzanian was immediately arrested and clamped into the detention.

But the slant given to narratives of what happened by the locals – against the background of existing resentments – transformed the incident into an orgy of hate crimes and greater tragedy for all societynow.ng learned.

‘’The Tanzania who pulled the trigger is known to the police and in their custody and the other South Africans that joined the deceased to attack him know this…so the hate crimes that resulted in the loss of lives and properties were needless’’ the source asserted.

South Africa is currently experiencing multiple pressure and threats of sanctions from other African countries over the attacks on their citizens on its soil.

The government of South Africa has arrested some of the alleged culprits as part of efforts to douse the situation.
