Fuel Scarcity Looms Despite Petroleum Minister Allison Madueke’s Secret Meeting In Lagos With Product Importers To Avert Crisis, As Stations Begin Cautious Sale Of Fuel!
Despite a speedy but secret meeting with Petroleum marketers under the emblem of Oil Marketing and Trading companies, fears of possible scarcity of petrol ahead the general elections is quietly becoming a reality.
Investigations by societynowng.com revealed petrol stations have started caution sale – and in some cases outright refusal to sell.
The Petroleum Minister met with importers of the product on Monday February 23 2015 to avert impending fuel crisis ahead the general elections scheduled for March 28 and April 11.
The meeting staged behind closed doors at the Eko Hotels sought to convince the marketers not to stop importation of petroleum products over unpaid subsidy claims.
The minister had argued that the development would create fuel scarcity crisis that would increased the already charged atmosphere as elections beckon.
Information revealed the Minister had assured the Oil Marketing and Trading companies players she would do all within her might to resolve their grievances.
Part of the grouse of the marketers include non payment of interests on delayed claims and provision for sharing loss of huge differences in exchange rate.
Also included is the demand that all outstanding subsidy claims outside the 45days deadline in the drawn up guidelines be paid.
Sources confirmed an informal agreement that importation will continue while Minister resolve all listed areas of conflicts was perfected before the meeting broke up.
It was specifically agreed that details of happenstances at the meeting would be kept under wraps.
Digs by societynowng.com however revealed contrary to assurances of ceaseless flow of the availability of the petrol, some fuel stations have embraced caution sale.
