Fire Service Saves N250m Worth Of Property In ABU Fire, Releases Helplines
at the Department of Local Government and Development Studies, Ahmadu Bello University
The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Zaria Area Command, has successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Department of Local Government and Development Studies, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Kongo Campus, Zaria, Kaduna State, preventing extensive damage and saving property valued at approximately ₦250 million.
The incident was reported at about 3:39 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical surge. Five offices used for academic purposes, covering an estimated area of 50 by 20 feet, were affected.
Following a distress call from the University Fire Station Commander, Usman Adamu, firefighters from the Federal Fire Service, Zaria Area Command, were immediately mobilised under the leadership of ASF II Zaradden Lawal. On arrival, the crew swiftly assessed the situation and commenced firefighting operations.
The prompt and coordinated response brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to adjoining buildings, significantly reducing the extent of damage.
No casualties or injuries were recorded.
