Although apologies have been made and industry elders have brokered a sort of peace, fans have refused to let go of the face-off between Fuji musicians Taiye Currency—real name Taiye Adebisi—and Pasuma, whose birth name is Wasiu Alabi Odetola.

Taiye Currency achieved stardom as a copycat of Pasuma.

Both artists share the same fan base, with Pasuma controlling the larger share.

Currency drew the ire of fans by sharing unflattering details about his mentor. He claimed that Pasuma became famous by infusing the style of another popular Fuji act, Obesere (real name Abass Akande). Obsere and Pasuma are not on the best of terms. He further inflamed tensions by flaunting his achievements and declaring that Pasuma is “just his brother.”

Fans well-acquainted with Currency’s rise to fame revolted against this attempt to rewrite history, instead supporting another Pasuma imitator, Alamu Agbolagade, the Ibadan-based Fuji musician known by his stage name, Tiri Leather.

“Tiri ti wa okay, Aseju ni Currency” (“Tiri is good enough; Currency is an overdo ) has become a popular street phrase, seemingly part of a campaign urging a boycott until Taiye Currency apologizes to Pasuma.

Many fans are showing tremendous support for Tiri Leather, boosting his popularity by liking and sharing his content across platforms.

This move sparked a rivalry that Currency, who has overshadowed even more established musicians, continues to battle to this day.
