“False & Baseless” – Lagos Lawmakers Say Remi Tinubu Not Fuelling Assembly Crisis
ongoing internal crisis within the legislative body.
Lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly have strongly refuted allegations suggesting that Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is influencing the ongoing internal crisis within the legislative body.
In a press statement issued by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Hon. (Otunba) Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, the lawmakers described the report as “false and baseless,” emphasizing that no member of the Assembly had made such claims.
“The attention of the Lagos State House of Assembly has been drawn to a misleading report circulating online, alleging that the ongoing internal matters within the House are being influenced by the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. We categorically dissociate all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly from this false and baseless claim,” the statement read.
The lawmakers reiterated their deep respect for Senator Tinubu, highlighting her contributions to governance both as a former First Lady of Lagos State and in her current national role.
They insisted that any attempt to link her to the Assembly’s internal affairs was entirely unfounded and aimed at tarnishing her reputation.
“It is therefore inconceivable that any member of the Assembly would accuse her of involvement in legislative matters or seek to tarnish her reputation. We firmly state that the First Lady has no role in any internal disagreements within the House,” the statement further noted.
The Assembly urged media practitioners to uphold ethical journalism by verifying information before publication.
While details of the Assembly’s internal crisis remain undisclosed, the statement suggests an attempt to dispel any insinuations of external interference.
The development comes amid growing public interest in the affairs of the Lagos legislature, as observers speculate on the underlying causes of the reported tensions.
With this firm denial, the lawmakers have set the record straight, reaffirming their independence while shielding the First Lady from what they describe as an “unfounded” narrative. Whether this clarification will quell public speculation remains to be seen.
