Musiliu Obanikoro

…as he remains person of interest for anti graft agency along with sons

Ex Minister Musiliu Obanikoro was a year older yesterday – Thursday July 28 2016.

But unlike previous editions when he was a proud walker in the corridors of powers and was serenaded with congratulatory adverts in nationals and regional newspapers, shouts outs on Radio and Television stations as well as frenzy of mentioning, hailing and applause on social media channels – this year’s edition virtually went unsung.

‘’That is except for splattered and hardly noticeable identifications by die hard followers here and there’’ a source quipped.

The former council chairman, commissioner, senator, ambassador and two times minister is enmeshed in perhaps the most turbulence period of his life sources that should known affirm.
And many are taking care not to be openly associated with him.

He is currently a person of interest to authorities in a mega case of corruption allegation.

The former minister faces mounting indictments in accusations of diversion of arms funds for election purposes.

Though he continues to scream his innocence from outside of the shores of the country – increasing numbers of witnesses continue to place him at the centre of the illegal diversion.

Authorities claim to have video evidence that contradicts Obanikoro’s assertions of innocence.

And to compound his woes, his sons ( Babajide and Gbolahan) are indicted in the illegal transaction that runs into billions of naira.

The sons and their father are currently abroad – United States of America – with anti corruption agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission decorating them with status ‘’wanted’’ back home.

The EFCC claims refusal to come back home and answer questions on involvement in diverting billions of naira meant to arm military in offensive against terrorism for the prosecution of the election that brought incumbent governor of Ekiti state Ayo Fayose to power reasons for labelling the Obanikioro’s fugitive.

But while his friends took care not to celebrate him as was the fashion when he reigned as a public office holder, his foes did.

Anti corruption agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission released information that further damned the former minister and his sons in the diverted arms fund for election mess on his day of celebration.

‘’It was an ironic way to signpost his birthday’’ a source noted.

The revelation occupied public space on the day the former public office holder turned 52 – and is still trending the day after.
