The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has disconnected electricity supply to government ministries, departments and agencies in Kwara State.
IBEDC’s action followed the state government’s failure to pay up its electricity bill, which has accumulated over the years.
Prior to the disconnection, it was said that the state government directed all its ministries and parastatals to get prepaid meters but IBEDC insisted that they must first pay up their debts.
An official of IBEDC, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to do so, said the distribution company had no option but to disconnect the ministries, saying all appeals to the government to pay the accumulated bill proved abortive.
He however, added that supply would be restored if the management paid part of the debt.
Recall that sometime in March, an audit report of debt by Federal Government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to power distribution companies (DISCos) revealed an indebtedness of N59.3b.
