Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has threatened to openly get involved in efforts to stop the re-election of the governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu.

Wike issued the threats in reaction to a statement by Akeredolu that Wike’s involvement in the re-election of Godwin Obaseki as the Governor of Edo State is ‘’imperialistic’’, ‘’unfortunate’’ and ‘’unbecoming’’.

Akeredolu who is the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) made the assertions through a statement by his Commissioner for information Donald Ojogo asserted that the people of Ondo State will resist Wike’s ‘’attempt to play the role of godfather’’ in his state.

Wike who was the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Campaign Council for the Edo State gubernatorial election is confirmed to have played a significant role in the victory of Governor Obaseki, including relocating to the state until the September 19, 2020 election was over.

Wike, reacting to the comments against him by Akeredolu threatened that ‘’ If they are not careful, I will be in Ondo,”

The Governor Rivers state is quoted to have said ‘’ “First of all, I don’t want to believe that Akeredolu can make such a statement. He does not have what it takes to make such a statement. Godfather of what and for who? We are the ones fighting against godfatherism.

“The question is that, have you (Akeredolu) done well for your people and my party is saying no, you have not done well and I believe so. Therefore, I am saying that Ondo people should protect their votes. They should repeat what happened in Edo.

“I still want to doubt that Akeredolu said that against me. And I am going to go and look for that Newspaper and read to be sure he did not say that.

“I want to see that he Akeredolu declared Wike persona non grata. He knows he can’t try that. If he tries it, then he is going to get into trouble. If they are not careful, I will be in Ondo,”

The Ondo gubernatorial election is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2020.
