Insiders have revealed the growing damage as the corruption allegations against Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly mounts.

Societynow.ng learned that some of his major backers have started withdrawing their supports, including Rauf Aregbesola the Minister for Interior.

Aregbesola is one of the most influential players in the politics of Lagos State.

Societynow.ng learned while ”these supporters” have not outrightly moved against Obasa, they have refused to ”cover him”.

”This itself is damaging because it allows the mounting agitation for the party and the state government to take an anti-corruption stand and allow for proper investigation into the allegations to snowball” societynow.ng learned.

Societynow.ng gathered that shots- caller Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is under enormous pressure to allow members of the Lagos State House of Assembly rearing to launch an investigation against the speaker to have their way.

”Naturally, these are lawmakers who are against Obasa and backed by people who share the same sentiments outside the government” societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed that the recently released list of 64 bank accounts linked to Obasa by his chief accuser, Saharareporters has not helped the Speaker’s situation.

”Prior to that story,  talk about this was abound among top politicians in his party (All Progressives Congress)and was been used to pressure Tinubu to allow an investigation because the situation would worsen and rub off badly on the party and good works of the governor in the long run ” societynow.ng gathered.

Insiders insist that Tinubu and other shot callers had been availed the document about the 64 bank accounts and more in the bid by those pushing for an investigation to be opened against the embattled speaker to have their way.

Asiwaju Tinubu has, however, refused to take a clear stand on the matter.

”Asiwaju has adopted the middle ground, for now, I guess typically he wants to see how well Obasa can fight his battle before deciding whether there is any vaue in saving him or not’ a source stated.

Insiders, however, insist that even if the Speaker survives the impeachment over the mounting allegations, the ambition to become a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria may be heavily damaged.

Societynow.ng gathered that influential politicians such as Musiliu Obanikoro ”eyeing” the same senatorial position as Obasa are fiercely feasting and leveraging on the ”allegations of corruption” scandal against the Speaker.
