A baffling scenario is playing out in Ogun state.

Teachers in the employment of the government have been asked to contribute towards the renovation of a Local Government Authority office.

“Teachers have been asked to pay money for renovation of the LGEA depending on their level, for instance level 7 (Seven) to 14 (fourteen) were asked to pay N1500 each ” societynow.ng learned.

The information available to societynow.ng revealed that this is the fate of teachers in Ayetoro, Yewa North, Ogun State.

The added information available revealed that the newly posted Education Secretary to Yewa North issued the directive to the teachers serving in the zone last week.

“There is no such demand in other areas” societynow.ng gathered.

Speaking on the development, Tai Adekanmbi, a former Chairman of the National Union of Teachers in Yewa North asserted that the payment is in form of voluntary donations.

“It is not a directive from the Education Secretary but a voluntary donation for the renovation exercise. Stakeholders agreed on the initiative and we took the idea to the Education Secretary and Head Teachers told the teachers to make voluntary donations” Ayokanmbi stated.
