This is indeed a trying time for Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Speaker informally addressed as Muda by political associates is stretched thin battling to put out the fire of different issues threatening his world.

Obasa is fighting to extinguish the interest of the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in his affairs on one hand and trying to retain his seat as Speaker of the Lagos Assembly on the other hand.

Insiders disclosed that he needs to achieve these two things to protect his Senatorial ambition.

Obasa has a burning ambition to become the next occupier of the Lagos West Senatorial seat.

But the plot to achieve this which appeared to be on course is rapidly crumbling.

The investigation by the EFCC which is dredging up mind-numbing revelations eroding Obasa’s image.

The investigation is said to have uncovered about 40 duplexes belonging to the Speaker who is being investigated for alleged diversion of public funds, inflated expenses, and abuse of office and related accusations.

The Duplexes are said to be situated opposite Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu – Lagos State.

A report monitored by societynow.ng on thepledge.ng claim that additional 57 properties owned by the speaker located in different parts of Lagos State including Agege and Ikorodu have also been exposed by the investigation.

Obasa is said to have acquired the properties by proxy with the names Akeem and Baruwa – his assistant – featuring prominently in the revelations.

These revelations are against the backdrop of information that Bank accounts belonging to the speaker with ‘’suspicious funds’’ have been frozen by the EFCC as the investigation continues.

And to compound the situation for the speaker, elements against his administrative style within the Lagos State House of Assembly are trying to leverage on the situation to unseat him.

Societynow.ng gathered that those involved in this move are ‘’some of those people Obasa humiliated by demoting them in the house.’’

Sources insist the plot to unseat Obasa, with increasing backing from forces outside the Assembly, is thickening by the hour.

‘’There are already talks of the compilation of signatures for his removal so that the corruption allegation will not taint the Assembly and government of Lagos State a whole’’ societynow.ng learned.

Obasa is said to be fighting the move with solicitation for supports in and House of Assembly.

Tunde Braimoh, lagos politician

‘’But it is not looking good for him as regards retaining his seat, Tunde Braimoh, the man who helped him to douse such a move in the past is no more and Obasa is yet to find the perfect replacement for such an influential person in his corner within the House’’ societynow.ng.

Braimoh was one of the causalities of the Covid-19 pandemic. He died a couple of weeks back.

Before his death, he was rated the most influential lawmaker in the Lagos Assembly based on his long reach and ability to network the different political caucuses within Lagos Assembly.

Braimoh was a member of Obasa’s inner caucus and his ”Mr Fix It”.
