Details: It’s Major Back-To-Back Honors For Tony Elumelu

It is a season of back-to-back honors for the king of commerce and philanthropist, Tony Elumelu.

One of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People In The World” was honored by Presidents of the ECOWAS state (Economic Comunity Of West African States ) as the laureate of the 2022 ECOWAS Prize of Excellence Award for Deserving Citizens of the Community.

‘This award is a recognition of our contribution to promoting regional integration, peace and socio-economic development across Africa, through our work at Heirs Holdings Group and the impact of our philanthropy, the Tony Elumelu Foundation.” Elumelu stated in a social media post.

SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed Heirs Holdings founded in 2010 by Elumelu is a family-owned investment holding company that maintains a portfolio of investments across several sectors while the Tony Elumelu Foundation founded the same year promotes entrepreneurship in Africa based on the belief that the private sector is critical to the continent’s development.

Both institutions continue to create far-reaching impacts at national and continental levels since they came to the fore.

Added information has it that on the heels of the recognition by ECOWAS was the presentation of another award to Elumelu by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Award was in recognition of The Tony Elumelu Foundation’s economic empowerment of wives of slain soldiers who lost their lives fighting to keep Nigeria safe and secure SocietyNow.Ng learned.

The information available has it that “Tony Elumelu Foundation’s Economic Empowerment for widows of the Armed Forces of Nigeria gives them business training and seed capital of $2,000 each to begin their entrepreneurial journeys and cater for their families.”

The founder of the foundation committed to creating 10,000 entrepreneurs across Africa by 2025 expressed “profound gratitude goes out to the selfless men and women of the Army who continually risk their lives daily to defend their country” and appreciation to “the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defence Staff and, the President & Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, H.E. Muhammadu Buhari” for the recognition in sharing the news.

The recipient of multiple National honors including the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic got the latest recognition at the Annual Chief of Army Staff Conference in Sokoto on Monday, December 5, 2022.
