The chances of re-election seeking Governor Godwin Obaseki has received a big boost.

According to a report monitored by societynow.ng on thenationonline.net, the Labour Unions in Edo State have thrown their weight behind Obaseki.

The leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) have vowed to mobilize their members to vote for the Governor on Saturday, September 19, 2020.

The Union leaders made this pledge publicly.

They spoke with the media during a rally in Benin to galvanized more support for Obaseki according to information at hand.

According to information sourced on thenationonline.net by societynow.ng Charman of the Edo State chapter of the NLC Emmanuel Ademokun asserted that ‘’ “We did not come here to campaign today but to let everybody know that the governor doesn’t joke with payment of pension and salary. What do we want again? You don’t change a working governor, but rather you re-elect him.’’

He further stated that ‘’ “The Nigeria Labour Congress under my watch never had issues with the governor; those with him are more than those that are against him.”

Lending his voice of support to Obaseki’s re-election bid, TUC Chairman Orhue disclosed that ‘’ “For four years in Edo State, workers have been promptly paid their salaries. There have been no strike actions. What else could we have asked of this man? On behalf of the TUC, I reassure the governor that we are strongly behind him.”

Lazarus Adorolo, the Chairman of NULGE on his part, validated the competence of Obaseki as regards revenue drive for the state with the assertion’’ Before now, local government revenue was nothing to write home about, but today we can collect our revenue without any issue,”

All the labour leaders urged members to ensure the re-election of Obaseki by voting massively for him on Saturday.

They promised to put action to the words by mobilized members to help Obaseki win the make or mar gubernatorial election that has pitched him against his godfather, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The move by the labour leaders is a big blow for Oshiomhole who is a former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress and is perceived to have a strong hold on the workers body that gave him fame and recognition – before politics came calling.
