Ambrose Olutayo Somide, Director of Radio Services at Daar Communications Plc, has left the talk of the town amid a hail of praise.

Daar Communications, founded by the late Raymond Alegho Dokpesi, is the parent company of pioneer private broadcast stations Africa Independent Television (AIT), RayPower, and Faaji F.M.

It is listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and Somide’s exit from the company is attributed to regulatory guidelines.

The ace broadcaster and administrator officially departed from the company he played a pivotal role in transforming into an industry leader on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

It was a day filled with glowing testimonials of his far-reaching influence and life-touching gestures over the years.

The power behind the founding—and formidable operations—of Faaji F.M., the radio station with an incredible street following, was hosted by staff and friends of the house for a farewell celebration on his last day.

Various radio programs were also dedicated to his good deeds, including a live call-in show anchored by popular Omolayo Ogundeyi on Faaji F.M.

Somide appeared as a guest on some of these programs, where notable personalities, such as former Lagos State chapter chairperson of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Funke Fadugba, shared stories of how he impacted their lives.

His leaving was prominently slanted in positive lights on news-belts, particularly by Kayode Adejumo fondly addressed as “Baba Yunke” on radio.

Findings revealed that the extensiveness of the celebrations honoring this media expert—who began his career at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) in 1982—was truly unique.

Informally known as Baba Elemi (The Spiritual One)—as he is also an evangelist—Somide captured the public’s attention in the ’90s as a co-anchor, alongside his partner Basiru Adisa, also known as Baba Gboin, on the popular AIT program they co-produced, Mini Jojo.
