Details: Ambode “Forgiven” As Aregbesola Loses Out In Lagos

It is now a case of reversal of roles between former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and Minister for Interior Rauf Aregbesola in the politics of Lagos state.

Societynow.ng gathered that the outcome of Saturday, July 24, 2021, local government election in Lagos state showed their standings.

Aregbesola,64, who has played “godfather’ for years in Lagos politics lost out in the whole process as well as the outcome.

The election took place in 20 local governments and 37 local government development areas.

All his loyalists and supporters who contested for the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship tickets were denied and last minutes efforts to swing things the way of one or two, just before Saturday election, were stoutly rebuffed.

While known sympathizers of Ambode with who was limited to a single term in office as the governor of Lagos state for “extreme disloyalty” and is labeled a “pariah” scaled through.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and number one politician in Lagos state is decorated with talks of presidential ambition.

Different pressure groups canvassing support for him to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari have sprung up over time and continue to spring up.

Minister Aregbesola, a former commissioner in Lagos state and ex-Governor of Osun state is alleged to be threatening the Presidential ambition of Tinubu.

Aregbe as friends and associates call the minister is said to be eyeing the same position and quietly positioning himself as a possible successor to President Buhari.

This development has pitched Baba Kabiru as the former governor is famously known during his reign as Governor of Osun state against the sympathizers and supporters of Asiwaju Tinubu.

“Working against his political interests such as denying him opportunities to empower his supporters such as transpired in the recent council election in Lagos state is seen as one of the major strategies to halt his ambition” societynow.ng learned.

The Minister who is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Ibadan is said to be facing a more passionate opposition over talks of his presidential ambition in Osun state where hardcore Asiwaju supporter, Gboyega Oyetola reigns as Governor.

Ambode who continues to find a way to make peace with his estranged mentor Asiwaju Tinubu was appointed the deputy chairman of the south-west subcommittee of the contact and strategy committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in May 2021.

The known sympathizers of Ambode who beat Aregbesola’s supporters to become elected representatives in local governments and local council development areas on Saturday are those with visible commitments to the cause of Asiwaju Tinubu and his camp.

“Ordinarily they (Ambode’s sympathizers) wouldn’t have made the list but it is a game of high stakes in which numbers matter that is playing out” societynow.ng learned.
