The crime of Desmond Olusola Elliot, the actor turned lawmaker that is earning him heavy backlash is very simple.

The state lawmaker in a submission advocating for social media narratives that fosters development branded youths in an uncomplimentary term.

He tagged them “children” in a speech seen as urging the government to clamp down on the use of social media. .

Elliot got elected on agitation for the involvement of youths in government in 2015.

He confirmed that massive social media campaigns by influencers and celebrities helped him to secure victory.

He got his second term utilizing the same platform in 2019.

The lawmaker representing Surelere constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly is 44years old.

The backlash against Elliot has been so massive that he was forced to issue a public apology yesterday, October 29, 2020, and hurriedly granted an interview to Arise T.V where he tearfully attributed the offending outburst to emotions.

“But the damage has been done, people have started dredging up all sorts of allegations against him in a clear hit back attempt including allegations of adultery that has resulted in a love child” a source pointed out.

The talks of need to control the social media with Minister Lai Mohammed infamously leading the charge is widely viewed as attempt to gag free speech against the dictate of the constitution.

And many people, particularly the youths are ferociously against it.

“That is why they see what Elliot, who tremendously benefited from use of social media, did as a big sin multiplied by calling them children” a source pointed out.
