Delta State Lawmaker, Keston Okoro Floats Record Label
…tag it ‘Mega Hits Music’
Nigerian artistes especially from the Niger Delta area may soon have cause to smile as Mega Hits Music, the new top of the range record label debuts.
Owned by Hon. Lord Keston Okoro, member of the Delta State House of Assembly from the Udu Constituency, the outfit appears poised to take the music business to a different level altogether.
He brought in state of the art equipment (for both audio and visual productions) into the country on his last trip abroad.
Hon Okoro in a statement said Mega Hits Music is his small personal way of giving back to the society aside his legislative functions as member of the state house of assembly.
“Our mission statement at Mega Hits Music is to discover music and film talents in the Niger Delta area and across the country. We are bent on taking young people off the streets and engage them constructively by harnessing their God given talent to the benefit of the society. We believe this gesture will reduce the incidents of restiveness among youths in the country and crime too.”
A talent hunt competition which would be coordinated by one of the country’s most gifted singer, Sammy Paul who incidentally is the only artiste on Mega Hits Music at the moment, will kick off very soon in Delta State.
Hon. Okoro said: “We are starting the talent hunt in Delta State because that is our base and later we can hold it in other strategic regions in the country. It is generally believed that a lot of talents, not just musical talents but comedy and sports among others abound in the Delta or Niger Delta area as the case may be. These untapped talents need a platform and we are providing that platform in the form of Mega Hits Music. We not only have the human capacity to do this, we have the technology too as an advantage because you can count on your fingers the number of labels that boast of the kind of state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment we have and in a country of over 150 million people, that is no mean feat.” Any artiste signed on to Mega Hits Music stand a chance of kick starting his international career as the Chief Executive officer of the record company had began talks with two international labels in Europe and America with the view of signing a strategic partnership deal. “I will not for obvious reasons mention the names of the international labels because we have not reached a final agreement but discussions have reached an advanced stage. My last trip abroad was really fruitful as regards positioning Mega Hits Music and as soon as we sign the partnership deal, any artiste on my label will have his works promoted abroad too. That is how a serious record company should really do instead of relying on the not too solid structure of our music industry to promote your artiste.”
He revealed Mega Hits Music will also go into movie production. “We have the equipment, very powerful ones we bought along the music recording ones and we are trying our hands in movie making. Experts are working on setting up the film studio as I speak. We are not just going to be making music stars only, we are also going to be giving the world movie and comedy stars because we will be hunting for the best periodically.”
Sammy Paul popularly called the Da Lyrical Scientist and artiste on Mega Hits Music is also coordinating the entire set up for the label being someone with a vast experience in the music and entertainment industry.
“Setting up this kind of top class record label in Delta State was a brilliant decision by my C.E.O, Hon. Lord Keston Okoro and we will all strive to make a success out of it because this a multi million naira investment in the entertainment industry and we have to ensure it works and that is why the first stage is to get a good media company that will represent us. We are already in talks with Media Image Managers, MIM, the rave of the moment media outfit that represents stars like D’banj, Kennis Music, Opa Williams, movie director Lancelot Imasuen among many other celebrities. Hopefully we will reach an accord and that would be a major break for us as a record label. They will also help in the area of the talent hunt competition.”
Sammy Paul disclosed the media would be taken on a facility tour of Mega Hits Music very soon, “because seeing is believing.”
