…As Jubril Ayinla publicly snubbed western flag commander’s hand shake.

The evening of Friday June 1 2012- the Nigerian Navy celebrated it’s 56th anniversary celebration.

It was a two part affair- the first arm of the celebration was staged at Navy Dockyard, Victoria Island Lagos. It was the commissioning of the first nigerian built warship by the Naval authorities. The event had President Goodluck Jonathan as special guest of honour.

The second leg was a cocktail format held at NNS Beecroft Apapa.

With a kick off time of 5.30 p.m, it had in attendance- the likes of Minister for Defence,Bello Muhammed, Minister of state for Defence, Olusola Obada, Chiefs of Army staff, Azubike Ihejirika, Inspector General of Police – Muhammed Abubarkar, Air Staff, Defence staff, Oluseyi Pitirin.

Senator Chris Anyawu, Security consultant and associate of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Tunde Panox, Ex Naval Chiefs, Jubril Ayinla, Akin Aduwo, Koshoni and others

The Chief of Naval Staff, Ossi Ibrahim stationed himself at the entry point of the venue- flanked by western flag officer commander welcoming the guests.

A taste of what was to be the norm at the occasion came to be, when Rear Admiral Jubril Ayinla came calling. He was one of the early callers.

The former naval chief pointedly ignored flag officer western command- even when the latter thrust his hand out for a hand shake.

The visible embarrassed Naval officer remained subdued all through the event after the treatment from Ayinla.

The hosts- Naval officers that make the bulk of the presence- went on to mete out a more disgraceful reception to their guests.

They drowned all happenings at the event- and announcements by the anchor person ( one of their senior officers)- in mindless chatter!

Even in the course of Naval anthem- shouts of ‘silence on deck’ by the M.C went unheeded!

The hosts were mostly all over the refreshment stands- relishing in food and drinks amidst noisy small talks, while the top brass carried on with the event!.

Special parade and performance by the Naval band were out rightly ignored.

Shockingly by the time the Service Chiefs, along with the ministers for Defence and state for defence, all flanked by other V.I.Ps were ready for a little bite- there was no table reserved for their refreshment!.

And the offerings on the tables available were almost ‘remnants!.

The anchor person had immediately launched into the next item on the agenda- address by the Chief Of Naval Staff and that of the Minister of state for Defence.

Sadly- this was done in a very noisy atmosphere as well.

Even direct order from Chief Of Naval staff via the anchor person for ‘silence’ was disregarded by the chatering naval officers.

Added pleas that the guests be respected were ‘shunned’ as the naval officers kept on ‘with their noisy talks’

Till the ceremony was abrupt brought to stop via plea of tiredness from Erelu Obada- the noise remained unabated.

‘This is a total disgrace’ was how an observer put it.

‘An absolute disgrace to the discipline all the service chiefs present stand for’ was the general consensus by civilians at the place.
