Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has explained that the tallest light tower erected by his administration is part of a broader effort to strengthen security, boost economic activity and redefine the state’s urban landscape.

Otu said he personally inspected the lighting of the tower to assess its impact, describing the project as an iconic symbol of progress, safety and renewed pride for the people of Cross River.

According to him, the tower is designed to illuminate the skyline while serving as a practical response to security concerns, especially at night.

The governor noted that improved lighting would help extend social and economic activities beyond daytime hours, creating a safer and more vibrant environment for residents, visitors and businesses.

“This light is designed to illuminate our skyline, enhance security, and extend economic and social activities into the night, creating a safer and more vibrant environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike”, the state chief executive stated.

He added that well-lit public spaces are critical to urban safety and play a key role in encouraging nightlife, tourism and commercial confidence.

Beyond its immediate function, Otu said the light tower reflects his administration’s commitment to modern infrastructure and urban renewal.

The Cross River State helmsman described the project as a statement of intent, signalling a future-focused approach to development in the state.

The governor reaffirmed his resolve to continue building a Cross River that is safe, welcoming and full of promise, stressing that infrastructure projects such as the light tower are central to his vision of a state that shines brighter on every front.
