Covid-19: ‘’Go Look For Other Jobs, Come Back When Govt Say We Can Re-Open’’ Catholic School Tells Teachers

A school in Ogun State owned by the ‘’Catholic’’ Church has directed its teachers to go ‘’look for other jobs until the government says schools can re-open’’.

The Government ordered the closure schools in Ogun – and some other states – in March 2020 as part of efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The Schools have remained shut since then with the date of re-opening not yet in sight.

‘’We were given half salary in the first month and the PTA raised N5,000 (Five Thousand Naira) in the second month but after that, we told to go fend for ourselves’’ a teacher in the affected school stated.

‘’Sister told us to look for other work and return when the government re-open schools because the school cannot afford to pay teachers who are not working’’ Societynow.ng gathered.

The checks made by societynow.ng gathered interestingly the teachers are made to give out assignments to students on the chat platform created for teachers and parents by the School – and also mandated to come to the school ‘’at the convenience’’ of the administrators.

The Catholic church-owned school is located in Sango-Ota area of Ogun State. It is a Nursery and Primary School.

‘’You need to see most of the teachers, most of them have become gaunt and sorry-looking’’ a source stated.

‘’Interestingly there is another school in that area, not a Catholic school that has been paying the salaries of workers and even gave out palliative to staff during the lockdown’’ a source stated.

‘’I guess it is not about religion or how religious you are but who you are, I mean how compassionate you are as a person’’ a source opined.

Insiders disclosed that the Catholic Church-owned school that refused to pay teachers salary just initiated school fees payment drive against parents who owe.
