in partnership with Power China,
BUA Group has taken a significant step toward sustainable industrial growth with the formal signing of an agreement for the construction of a 20-megawatt solar power plant to serve its BUA Cement facility in Sokoto, Nigeria.
The project will be executed in partnership with Power China, one of the world’s leading energy and infrastructure development companies.
The signing ceremony was held in Beijing, with Kabiru Rabiu, Group Executive Director of BUA Group, and Qiu Haisheng, Overseas General Manager of Power China, representing their respective organizations. Also present were Abdul Samad Rabiu, Founder and Executive Chairman of BUA Group, and Qi Haifeng, Group General Manager, Overseas Division of Power China.
The solar power plant is expected to enhance the energy efficiency and environmental performance of the Sokoto cement facility, one of the largest in West Africa. By integrating renewable energy into its operations, BUA Cement is aligning with Nigeria’s broader goals of transitioning to cleaner energy sources and reducing industrial carbon emissions.

This initiative forms part of BUA Group’s long-term strategy to incorporate sustainable practices into its business operations. The solar plant will support uninterrupted operations at the Sokoto facility while contributing to national energy diversification efforts.
The collaboration with Power China also underscores the deepening economic and infrastructural ties between Nigeria and China, particularly in the area of green energy development.
With this partnership, both companies are expected to deliver a model project that demonstrates the feasibility of industrial-scale solar integration in Sub-Saharan Africa.
As global industries respond to rising energy demands and climate concerns, projects like this solar plant represent a critical pivot toward more resilient, sustainable production systems—positioning BUA Cement as a forward-looking leader in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
