“ASR Africa’s Impact Is Everywhere I Go” — Usmanu Danfodiyo Uni Vice Chancellor Applauds Abdul Samad Rabiu
saying the impact of his interventions through ASR Africa is evident across institutions
The Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), Prof. Bashir Garba, has applauded the philanthropic contributions of Nigerian industrialist and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, saying the impact of his interventions through ASR Africa is evident across institutions in Sokoto State.
Garba spoke during the commissioning and handover of a N250 million administrative block donated by the Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative for Africa (ASR Africa) to the university’s College of Health Sciences.
The facility, named Abdul Samad Rabiu Admin Block, is located within the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) complex and forms part of ASR Africa’s Tertiary Education Grants Scheme aimed at strengthening infrastructure in Nigerian universities.
Describing the intervention as historic, the Vice Chancellor said he had repeatedly encountered the impact of ASR Africa’s support while serving in different public institutions in the state.
“I believe I am the most fortunate public servant because wherever I go as a public servant in the State to head an institution, I regularly encounter the impact of the donations by ASR Africa through its Chairman,” he said.
Garba assured the organisation that the university would put the facility to effective use, noting that it had already contributed to the institution’s infrastructure requirements during an accreditation exercise conducted by the Medical and Dental Council.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, said the project was among 30 grants awarded to 30 universities across Nigeria.
He said Usmanu Danfodiyo University scored highly in the initiative’s assessment process, expressing optimism about further partnerships that would strengthen the institution.
The administrative block comprises 20 staff offices, including an office for the departmental head, a panel room, staff conveniences and storage facilities, providing additional workspace for teaching, research and administrative activities.
Established in 2021 by Rabiu, ASR Africa supports sustainable development interventions across health, education and social development in Africa.
