The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into a viral video showing some soldiers expressing dissatisfaction with the food items allegedly sent to them by higher authorities.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 24 July 2025, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered a thorough probe to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Although the authenticity and full context of the video are yet to be confirmed, the Army assured the public that the issue is being treated seriously.
The outcome of the investigation, according to the statement, will be made public in line with the COAS’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Reiterating that troop welfare is a top priority, the Army cited General Oluyede’s “Soldier First” concept, which focuses on improving the well-being, dignity, and readiness of personnel.
The Army also urged its personnel to channel any grievances through appropriate internal platforms, warning against the use of unauthorised means that could breach military discipline.
The statement reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to the welfare of its soldiers and its continued effort to maintain professionalism in carrying out its constitutional duties.
