Concerned citizen Maxwell Adeleye raises major concerns about the Amotekun security initiative of the southwest governors.

FOR THE RECORD: FACTS ABOUT SOUTH WEST’S OPERATION AMOTEKUN THAT PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW BEFORE THEY ARE DISAPPOINTED!!

1. The South Governors have been using the names of OPC, Vigilantes, Agbekoyas and Hunters Association to build credibility for Operation Amotekun through the pages of newspapers and digital channels whereas these local militia groups have no input whatsoever in the Amotekun project.

2. Strictly, SW Governors are to handle recruitment in their respective States. 

3. I am sure Aare Gani Adams will not be patronised by the Governors based on reasons I cannot share in public. 

4. Decentralized system of recruitment adopted which to me is OK But…?

5. State governors are majorly recruiting their political boys to the detriment of traditionally experienced Hunters, Vigilantes, Agbekoyas, Soluderos and OPC members.

6. Political Loyalists of state governors to be recruited into the scheme to provide empowerment for the boys. Merit jettisoned for political exigencies.

7. Operationally, Amotekun has only one OBJECTIVE as approved by the requisite state security formations: To gather intelligence and report to the Police, Civil Defense, Army and Air Force officials. Simple.

8. Amotekun Officials have no power to arrest and detain before handling over suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, ritualists, etc to the formal security sectors for more investigation and prosecution.

9. If kidnappers and Armed robbers are spotted and they have advantage to capture them, they must not do so. 

10. Officials of Amotekun scheme who disobey Provisions laid down by the Police are to be reprimanded, disengaged or prosecuted.

11. In fairness, I blame not the police and other formal security actors, they are only trying to work in accordance with provisions of the constitution.

12. Therefore, I want to say there’s nothing innovative, creative and unique in Operation Amotekun because the functions assigned to the officials of the yet to be inaugurated group are functions already being performed by various self-determination groups like OPC, VGN, SOLUDERO, VGN, YORUBA KOYA, AGBEKOYA, amongst others.

13. Conclusion: The much publicised event slated for Thursday 9th January 2020 is for FANFARE to prepare food for the boys; major stakeholders jettisoned for political exigencies.

14. Recommendations: It is recommended to Yoruba People to take their destiny into their hands by demanding for the Political, Economic and Social RESTRUCTURING OF NIGERIA OR ABSOLUTE DISSOLUTION OF THE COUNTRY.
