Anti-Democracy Protester On Ibom Air To Remain In Custody
case was adjourned
The court has ruled that anti-democracy protester Obiajulu Uja remains in custody.
The decision is to determine the mental capacity of the suspect.
Ubiajulu was arrested on Ibom Air’s Abuja to Lagos flight making anti-democracy statements over the planned swearing-in of President-Elect, Bola Tinubu.
He was arrested for threatening violence and causing a breach of peace and faces prosecution at the Zuba Magistrate Court, Abuja.
His lawyer brought an application for his bail but the court ruled that the move is premature.
The court held that the documents provided did not say that say the suspect is not able to face trial but indicate an “unsound mind”.
Senior Magistrate Mohammed Abdulazeez Ismail refused the bail application and ordered that Uja should remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional centre of Nigerian Correctional Service and be taken to a government hospital to determine how sound his mind is.
The case was adjourned to April 20, 2023.
