Akpabio Elected Senate President With 63 Votes

Senator Godswill Akpabio has been elected the Senate President of Nigeria.

The “uncommon” politician clinches the top job with Senator Barau Jibril as his Deputy Senate President.

Akpabio got the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the word-go and last minute support of immediate past Senate President Ahmad Lawan becomes Nigeria’s 10th Senate President with the feat.

His fiercest challenger for the position, Abdulaziz Yari got 46 votes.

Yari’s loss knocked out Senator Orji Kalu’s dream of getting one of the two top jobs in the Senate.
