Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi and representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has paid glowing tribute to the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, describing him as a timeless monarch whose reign redefined traditional leadership and left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s cultural and political landscape.

In a heartfelt statement issued on Saturday, July 13, 2025, the Senator expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s passing, joining millions of indigenes of Ijebuland, Ogun State, and Nigerians across the globe in mourning a royal icon whose life was marked by courage, wisdom, and an unyielding commitment to the progress of his people.

“Kabiyesi was more than a royal father; he was a statesman in his own right, a fearless advocate of justice, and a custodian of our cherished traditions,” Senator Adeola stated. “His ascension to the throne in 1960 marked the beginning of a transformative era in Ijebuland, one that would see our people rise in unity, economic prosperity, and cultural prominence.”

He highlighted Oba Adetona’s remarkable achievements during his over six-decade reign, including the international recognition of the Ojude Oba festival and the elevated socio-political relevance of Ijebuland within the Nigerian federation.

According to the Senator, Oba Adetona’s leadership was distinguished by integrity, foresight, and an unwavering dedication to the welfare of his people. “Through wisdom and vision, he elevated the status of Ijebuland within Nigeria and beyond,” he said. “The legacy he leaves behind is rich and inspiring, a guiding light for generations yet unborn.”

Senator Adeola concluded his tribute with prayers for the repose of the monarch’s soul, and a solemn hope that the Awujale’s enduring legacy will continue to inspire traditional rulers and leaders across the country.

“Adieu, Òrìṣà Ìjẹ̀bú,” he wrote, bidding farewell to a monarch whose name, he said, will forever be etched in the annals of history.
