Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has described his emergence as the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections as “a profound honour.”

Kwankwaso made the remark following a special affirmation ceremony where former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, was formally affirmed as the presidential candidate of the party for the 2027 elections.

In a social media narrative after the event, Kwankwaso said he was deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in him by the leadership of the party and pledged his commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the NDC.

“It was a profound honour to join fellow party members at the special affirmation ceremony of His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the Presidential Candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections,” he said.

The former presidential candidate added: “I am particularly humbled and deeply honoured by my ratification as the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate.”

Kwankwaso also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party for what he described as a courageous and visionary move aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s democratic landscape ahead of the next general elections.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, and all other leaders for this bold and visionary decision,” he stated.

According to him, the decision underscores the party’s determination to promote inclusiveness, strengthen democratic institutions and provide purposeful leadership for Nigerians.

“It clearly reflects the NDC’s unwavering commitment to national unity, democratic consolidation, and purposeful leadership as we prepare for the 2027 elections,” Kwankwaso said.

The development signals the formal emergence of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket under the NDC banner, a move expected to generate significant interest across the country’s political landscape as parties begin early preparations for the 2027 presidential contest.

Political observers believe the alliance brings together two influential political figures with substantial followings across different parts of the country, potentially reshaping calculations ahead of the next election cycle.
