‘It’s Ayo Fayose That Is Responsible Oh. He’s The Culprit. Silly Advertisements’ And Other Hard Knocks For Ekiti Gov Over ‘Death Wish’ Advert Campaign Against APC Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari

Monday January 19 2014, the nation woke up to see a peculiar campaign for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re election placed by Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose.

The front page adertt on Punch Newspaper urged voters to chose ‘Life’ over ‘Death’, while passing across its message utilised the pictures of former head of government tragically cut down while in office – with a question mark on the fate of the Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential candidate rival political party making a great run to wrest power from re election seeking incumbent operating on the platform of People’s Democratic Party- PDP.

The photograph of Buhari was placed alongside the dead leaders. And his age , 72 , conspicuously written

Mr Fayose is one of the Governor’s that won office as a PDP member.

The campaign which equally played the up ethnic sentiment that ‘Northern Presidency should wait till 2019’ in reference to the region the APC Presidential Flag bearer is from has attracted wide spread reactions, particularly knocks for Mr Fayose.

This advert is tactless, tasteless and completely inappropriate. What has the brutal killing of Murtala Mohammed had to do with the sickness of Yar Adua? This is the lowest of the low and instead of boosting the fortunes of PGEJ it denigrates and diminishes it.On a day that the 10k fuel reduction should be on the front burner of discourse, Gov. Fayose has scored an own goal for PDP.

From communication perspective that advert is flawed on all levels and I will share some inferences from it. (1) by having Murtala in the Ad Fayose is saying that GMB may be killed and not die as a result of old age. (2) by including Abacha in that list you can infer that Fayose is alluding that GMB will be dictatorial, insensitive and will be wished away in office. (3) By adding NE under every name, Fayose has played the sectional card and have told the over 17million registered voters in that area that their son, irrespective of their vote, cannot be president. (4) Fayose also played the religious card by putting up only pix of Muslims (even tho we had OBJ and Ernest Sonekan in office and their ages were close to GMB’s but they are xtians). Fayose indeed betrayed himself by adding his signature to that Ad. We should never forget tomorrow….’tomorrow’ in this stead is just some few weeks away. Kjv

After Lagos with 5,822,207 voters, Kano is next with 4,975,701 voters. Murtala Muhammed and Abacha are proud Kano sons. Fayose just gave the Kano vote to Buhari by his thoughtlessness.

I really don’t understand how ekiti people managed to vote this guy as their governor ,Fayose is a gangster.
PDP should stop this cheap blackmail and stop inciting violence. If as a government they can’t provide us with fact about their achievement but instead result to insults and blackmail then CHANG WE NEED. GMB all the way .

No one is surprised this kind of “motor garage” tactics is coming from Fayose as he’s widely known to be a common tout.

People are more surprised that a newspaper house of Punch’s calibre can allow itself to be used to score such cheap points.

Fayose just won this election for Buhari.
