Senate: ‘I Had a Powerful Meeting With Ward Chairmen’ — Iyabo Obasanjo Doles Out Cars to Boost Logistics

Iyabo Obasanjo, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senatorial candidate for Ogun Central in the 2027 elections, has stepped up grassroots mobilisation with a meeting involving the 74 ward chairmen in the senatorial district and the presentation of vehicles to party leaders in three local government areas.

Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said the meeting was focused on strengthening the party structure, grassroots mobilisation and organisational discipline ahead of the election.

“I had a powerful meeting with all 74 Ward Chairmen across Ogun Central. We sat down to discuss party structure, grassroots mobility, and the organisational discipline needed to keep moving our state forward,” she said.

According to her, while strategy may begin at the leadership level, effective political organisation depends largely on activities at the grassroots.

“Strategy starts at the top, but the real work happens in our neighbourhoods, and these leaders carry that responsibility every single day,” she said.

To strengthen logistics and mobilisation, Obasanjo said she presented vehicles to party leadership in Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North and Ifo.

She said the vehicles were intended to ease logistics and improve the ability of party structures to operate at the local level.

“To back our words with action and strengthen local operations, I presented vehicles to our leadership in Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, and Ifo to ease logistics and boost mobilisation,” the former senator revealed.

Obasanjo said the initiative was part of her broader emphasis on grassroots empowerment as the 2027 elections approach.
“Grassroots empowerment isn’t just a promise, it’s our priority. Together, we are building a stronger, more connected Ogun State,” she stated..

The PDP candidate is contesting the Ogun Central senatorial seat against the incumbent, Salisu Shaib of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who is seeking re-election in 2027.

The contest is expected to draw attention to the strength of the competing parties’ grassroots structures across the six local government areas that make up Ogun Central.

Obasanjo’s latest engagement with the ward leadership comes as political parties and their candidates intensify early preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
