“Host Unclassified Movie, Risk Immediate Sealing”: NFVCB Warns Lagos Venues Over ‘Living In Colors’

​The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has warned cinema operators and exhibition centers in Lagos that hosting unapproved films will lead to the immediate sealing of facilities and the revocation of operational licenses.

​The regulatory agency handed down the warning following promotional materials and a trailer circulating across media channels regarding an event titled “Media Press Call and Movie Premiere of ‘Living in Colors’” scheduled to take place at a cinema facility in Lagos.

In an official statement released by its Management, the Board stated that preliminary investigations and reports confirmed that the trailer for the movie depicts explicit pornography and actively promotes same-sex relationships.
​
The Board noted that the movie has neither been submitted, vetted, nor classified by the regulatory body, stressing that any public exhibition or promotion is completely illegal.
​
“Hosting an unclassified film is a direct breach of digital and theatrical content laws, which will result in the immediate sealing of the facility and revocation of operational licenses,” the Board warned, adding that it has already contacted the management of the venue provider.
​
The agency further stated that it is collaborating with federal and state security agencies to track down, disrupt, and halt the planned press call and premiere event at the designated venue.
​
Beyond halting the event, the Board disclosed that legal proceedings are being initiated against the production company alongside the individual producers and promoters involved in the project.
​
Under the provisions of the NFVCB Act and the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, the Board reiterated that it remains a severe criminal offense to organize a public show or handle the distribution of unclassified or legally prohibited content.

​Reaffirming its absolute commitment to safeguarding the country’s moral, cultural, and constitutional values, the regulatory body advised content creators, cinema operators, and media distributors to desist from aiding the promotion of the unlawful work or face the full wrath of the law.
