FMBN Introduces Mortgage Loan Scheme For Nigerians In Diaspora
officially launched its NHF Diaspora Mortgage Loan in London
Nigerians living abroad now have a structured pathway to own homes in Nigeria as the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) officially launched its NHF Diaspora Mortgage Loan in London.
The initiative, launched on August 7, 2026, is designed to make homeownership more accessible to Nigerians in the diaspora while addressing concerns around fraudulent property transactions, unreliable intermediaries and limited access to mortgage finance.
Under the scheme, eligible Nigerians abroad can register under the NHF Scheme, complete their KYC digitally, make contributions remotely and access mortgage financing without travelling to Nigeria.
Qualified contributors can access up to ₦100 million at 9% interest per annum, with a maximum repayment tenor of 10 years, subject to affordability and applicable requirements.
FMBN MD/CEO, Shehu Usman Osidi, said the initiative will go beyond homeownership by stimulating housing construction, creating jobs, supporting developers, deepening mortgage penetration and attracting additional foreign exchange into Nigeria.
“This is not simply a Diaspora product. It is a national housing finance strategy,” Osidi said.
NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Hon. (Dr.) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the initiative as one built on “investment, belonging and trust,” urging Nigerians abroad to take advantage of the opportunity.
With the NHF Diaspora Mortgage Loan, FMBN is taking affordable mortgage finance beyond Nigeria’s borders and bringing more Nigerians closer to owning a home back home.
