Residents of Gummi town in Zamfara State turned out in large numbers to welcome and celebrate troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following what the military described as a major victory against bandits at Dutsen Gidan Hill, about 17 kilometres outside Gummi in Gummi Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the troops recently “neutralized scores of terrorists and recovered dozens of motorcycles previously used to terrorise local communities.”

The statement said the recovered motorcycles were transported back to the military headquarters on an Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC, after the successful operation.

It added that the return of the troops sparked “a spontaneous show of appreciation,” as residents gathered at the military base to cheer and thank the soldiers for what they described as their courage and sacrifices in the fight against banditry.

According to the statement, “The arrival of the troops sparked a spontaneous show of appreciation, with a large crowd gathering at the military base to openly cheer and thank the soldiers for their bravery and sacrifices.”

The Army said the overwhelming reception by residents reflected “growing public confidence in the ongoing military operations across the North West,” adding that it also underscored “the strengthening relationship and mutual trust between local communities and security forces.”

Reaffirming its commitment to tackling insecurity, the military said Operation FANSAN YAMMA “remains resolute in its campaign against banditry,” while expressing appreciation for the continued support and actionable intelligence provided by members of the public as efforts continue to restore lasting peace across the region.
