AEDC: Wike Leads Efforts To Restore Power After Maitama Substation Invasion

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has said the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stepped in to resolve the power disruption affecting Maitama and adjoining areas following the invasion and encroachment on its C2 Maitama Substation.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the electricity distribution company said the matter had been escalated to the highest level of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, with the minister personally taking charge of efforts to restore normalcy.
According to AEDC, “the matter concerning the invasion and encroachment on the C2 Maitama Substation has now been escalated to the highest levels of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.”
The company added: “We are pleased to confirm that the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, has been fully briefed on the situation and has personally intervened to facilitate an urgent resolution of the issues responsible for the current power disruption affecting Maitama and adjoining areas.”
AEDC said it was collaborating with the FCT Administration, security agencies and other stakeholders to safeguard the substation and restore electricity supply.
“AEDC is working closely with the Honourable Minister, the Federal Capital Territory Administration, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to secure the substation, protect this critical electricity infrastructure and expedite the restoration of electricity supply,” the statement said.
The company commended the minister for what it described as his prompt response to the situation.
“We commend the Honourable Minister for his swift intervention and unwavering commitment to resolving the matter,” AEDC said.
It also reassured customers that efforts were ongoing to restore supply as quickly and safely as possible, while thanking residents for their patience and understanding during the outage.
