What He Said: Obasa Returns As Lagos Lagos Speaker, Meranda Steps Down
followed Thursday’s testy drama.
Mudashiru Obasa is back as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
He returned to the position following the resignation of Mojisola Lasbat Meranda today, March 3, 2025.
Meranda, who was quite popular among her colleagues, was elected Speaker on January 13, 2025, immediately after Obasa was removed.
She retained the confidence of 36 out of the 40-member strong House until her resignation.

Obasa’s return followed Thursday’s testy drama.
Immediately after he was unanimously recognized as Speaker, Obasa stated:
“Today is not a day for speech-making but for appreciating our colleagues who have put a lot into this gathering,” Obasa said.
“I thank the party leaders present here today, with special thanks to Bisi Akande, former Osun governor, and Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun.
“We are resolved and determined to serve and protect the interests of Lagosians.
“What is happening today shows that the House is mature and has an internal mechanism to resolve issues.
“Today is not a day for speech-making but for thanking my colleagues for everything.”
