EMOWAA – Edo Museum of West African Art – is the not for profit foundation with the mission to support West African heritage and culture as well as to empower contemporary creatives.

Here are three major things you should know about the foundation that just unveiled game-changing initiatives in its spheres of operation

The EMOWAA Trust was established in 2019 as a not-for-profit foundation/trust incorporated as a company limited by guarantee (like many educational and not-for-profit organisations in Nigeria). It is the promoter of the planned Edo Museum for West 

African Arts (EMOWAA) complex. The Creative District and Pavilion Building which is now under construction has been a result of a collaboration of architects lead by Sir David Adjaye OBE whose other projects include the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), a Smithsonian Institution Museum, amongst others. 

When operational, the EMOWAA complex will collect, preserve, and display works from the artistic heritage of West Africa It will also provide infrastructure, research and education as well as capacity building opportunities for scholars and creative professionals across West Africa.
