189 Goals Scored In Preliminary Stage Of Betway 5s League

Since the beginning of the Betway 5s league, football lovers have been thrilled with breath-taking goals and skilful displays. The league kicked off on September 1, 2018, with 24 teams competing in 4 different locations around Lagos State.

Recently, Betway announced the end of the regular season of the 5-aside league and start of the playoffs. During the regular season, the quality of football was top notch and we witnessed fabulous team play, brilliant goals, and fantastic saves.

Here are 5 things you need to know to keep you updated ahead of the playoffs which started October 13, 2018:

189 Goals Scored in 60 games:

After 5 weeks, 189 goals were scored in 60 games played across four locations., In the Island division, at Pitch and Court Lekki, 57 goals were recorded, while at Greenfield stadium, also in Lekki, 33 goals were scored as 6 teams battled it out for a place in the playoffs.

In the mainland division, Surulere witnessed 54 goals, while 45 goals were scored in Ikeja. On an average, 3.1 goals were scored in every match.

Ikeja All-Stars And Vic FC Lead The Mainland Pack:

Ikeja All-Stars and Vic FC dominated the mainland division. Ikeja All-Stars was able to dispatch their closest competition SPG FC, to finish top of the group with 12 points. In Surulere, Vic FC had to fight to the end to finish top with 12 points, same as their closest rival Aguda FC.

TNF 2 and G 12 FC Dominate The Island Division

On the Island, TNF 2 dominated proceedings at Greenfield stadium. After 5 weeks of playing under floodlights, TNF 2 recorded 10 points to emerge winners of the group. The other match group in the Island division saw G12 Fc narrowly winning the group with 12 points, their closest competition was Team Alaba who came second with 11 points.

So Many Talents On Display:

We all know that Nigeria is blessed with many talented footballers, but, we also know that most of these talents find it difficult to showcase their skills and abilities as a result of little or no platform. With the creation of the Betway 5s League, grassroots footballers had a platform to display and showcase their talents. Some players distinguished themselves during the Regular season, exhibiting eye-catching skill and fitness. Emeka Asogwa of VIC Fc, Olamide Lanko of AA Fives, Ifeanyi Onishowo of Alaba Fc and Ekoh Sagoe of TNF2 are just some of the numerous talents on display.
