Zenith Bank Plc has introduced Google Pay for its customers, expanding digital payment options and enabling eligible cardholders to make contactless payments and complete online transactions using compatible devices.

The bank said the service allows customers to add eligible Zenith Bank cards to Google Wallet and pay at participating contactless terminals, as well as check out on supported websites and mobile applications without repeatedly entering their card details.

The development comes amid growing reliance on digital channels for shopping, bill payments and other financial transactions, as financial institutions seek to improve convenience while strengthening payment security.

Google Pay uses tokenisation technology, which replaces a customer’s actual card number with a digital token during transactions, helping to reduce exposure of sensitive card information.

According to the bank, the service offers faster checkout, additional protection for card details and a convenient payment experience across supported channels, subject to device compatibility, card eligibility and merchant acceptance.

The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank, Dame Adaora Umeoji, described the development as “digitally forward”, highlighting the bank’s continued focus on technology-driven banking services.

She also pointed to the forthcoming Zenith Bank Tech Fair 2026, themed Future Forward 6.0, scheduled for November 5, as part of the bank’s broader engagement with technology and innovation.

Zenith Bank said the launch builds on its history of technology adoption, recalling its introduction of an ATM gallery in 2007, which it described as Nigeria’s first. The facility provided access to cash without the conventional teller-based banking process, including on weekends and public holidays.

The bank said eligible cardholders can activate the service by opening Google Wallet on a compatible device, selecting the option to add a payment card and completing the required verification process.

Once activated, customers can use the service at participating contactless payment terminals and supported online and in-app checkout points.

The bank said availability would depend on card eligibility, device compatibility and merchant acceptance.
