BUA Group has begun production of POP gypsum boards at its Port Harcourt facility, strengthening its push for local manufacturing and expanded capacity in Nigeria’s building materials sector.

The facility, operated by BUA Gypsum Plaster Ltd, a BUA Group company, is a recently completed Plaster of Paris (P.O.P) and plasterboard manufacturing plant located in Port Harcourt.

The project builds on the POP production earlier started by the group and marks a key expansion into gypsum plaster boards.

Announcing the development, BUA Group Chairman and Founder, Abdul Samad Rabiu, said, “Production has commenced at our Port Harcourt facility for POP gypsum plaster boards, building on the POP production we started earlier — continuing our commitment to local manufacturing in Nigeria.”

The Port Harcourt plant is Nigeria’s largest plaster (gypsum powder) production facility and is expected to boost local output while helping to bridge growing demand for plaster products in the country.

The facility is also positioned to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported plaster and plasterboard products.

With the commencement of production, BUA Gypsum Plaster Ltd. adds to the group’s wider manufacturing footprint, as the company continues to invest in domestic production capacity to support the construction and housing sectors.
