Akinlade Dismisses 2027 Guber Speculation
linking him to a possible 2027 governorship bid
Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, former gubernatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and the immediate past deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has dismissed recent online speculations linking him to a possible 2027 governorship bid.
Akinlade made the clarification in a statement issued by his media aide, Babatunde Akinteye, following a viral Facebook post that featured his image alongside a message suggesting he was being urged to contest for governor in 2027.
The post, which praised Akinlade as a “reliable, visionary, and ambitious leader to take Ogun State to its rightful place,” sparked conversations across political circles. However, Akinlade said his focus remained on supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and the people-oriented leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
According to the statement, Akinlade reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, describing himself as a committed party man whose allegiance to the party leadership is “unwavering and unquestionable.”
“Hon. Akinlade’s primary focus remains the growth and progress of our great party, the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and the continued development of Ogun State under the people-oriented leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun,” the statement read.
He also urged his supporters and party members to disregard speculative social media posts, emphasizing that he remained firmly committed to strengthening the APC and promoting unity among progressives in the state.
In recognition of his commitment, Akinlade was recently appointed as a member of the Mobilization Committee for the Voter Registration Exercise in Ogun State — a responsibility he reportedly accepted with “dedication and humility in service to the party.”
The statement further called on party faithful to uphold discipline and respect the supremacy of the party as the APC continues to work toward delivering good governance and sustainable development for the people.
“The mission remains the same — to strengthen our party, support our leaders, and advance the progress of Ogun State and Nigeria,” Akinlade reaffirmed.
