Gov Eno Powers Ibom Hotel Forward With New High-Tech Energy Solution
the hotel had for years struggled with unreliable electricity supply
The ongoing transformation of the iconic Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort has received a major boost following the arrival of three state-of-the-art Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) generators procured by the Akwa Ibom State Government under the leadership of Umo Eno.
Speaking during an inspection of the newly delivered generating plants at the hotel premises in Uyo, the State Delivery Adviser on Tourism and Managing Director of the hotel, Sir Charles Udoh, described the development as a landmark intervention aimed at repositioning the hospitality facility to international standards.
According to Sir Charles Udoh, the delivery of the generators fulfills one of Governor Umo Eno’s key promises to the people of Akwa Ibom and to the management of the Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort to completely overhaul and modernize the facility for enhanced and efficient result.
He disclosed that the three generators, each housed in massive 40-foot containers, are 1500KVA noise proof CNG-powered units with a combined power capacity of 4500KVA, enough to permanently resolve the long-standing electricity challenges confronting the hotel.
Udoh noted that the hotel had for years struggled with unreliable electricity supply and dependence on aging diesel generators, leading to enormous operational costs and disruptions in service delivery.
“With these generators, power will no longer be a problem for the hotel. This is a total upgrade from what we previously had. The hotel can now operate efficiently for extended periods without depending on public power supply,” he stated.
He further revealed that the project also includes dedicated gas tanks and low-bed support systems for uninterrupted energy supply, explaining that the CNG technology offers a cleaner, more cost-effective, and more sustainable alternative to conventional diesel-powered generators.
In addition to solving the hotel’s energy needs, Sir Charles Udoh disclosed that the state government had earlier delivered brand-new industrial chillers for the hotel’s cooling systems as part of the broader remodeling project currently underway.
He said the ongoing renovation covers the remodeling of 47 rooms, including 40 rooms within the main hotel complex and seven external apartments, alongside major mechanical and electrical upgrades.
The tourism adviser explained that the renovation work was temporarily slowed to accommodate design reviews and operational input from incoming international hotel managers engaged by the state government to reposition the facility competitively within the global hospitality market.
Another major highlight of the project is the installation of over 1,500 solar-powered streetlights across the hotel premises and golf course precinct.
According to Udoh, the ambitious lighting initiative is designed not only to improve aesthetics and security but also to make the Ibom Golf Course one of the few in Africa capable of hosting night golf activities.
He emphasized that innovation remains central to the state government’s vision for the hospitality and tourism sector, noting that the transformation of the Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort is part of Governor Umo Eno’s broader agenda to reposition Akwa Ibom as a leading tourism and investment destination in Nigeria and beyond.
On behalf of the hotel’s management and staff, Sir Charles Udoh expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for what he described as the governor’s consistent commitment to delivering impactful projects and revitalizing critical state-owned assets.
