The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has dismissed reports claiming that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, which resumed operations two months ago, has been shut down.

In a statement released by Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., the company described the reports as “totally false.”

According to the statement, the refinery remains fully operational, with its status verified by former Group Managing Directors of the corporation just days ago.

Soneye assured Nigerians that preparations for the day’s loading operations at the refinery are currently underway, reaffirming the company’s commitment to ensuring seamless operations.

He further urged members of the public to disregard the rumors, attributing them to individuals seeking to create artificial scarcity in the market and exploit Nigerians.

“The public is advised to discountenance such reports as they are figments of the imagination of those who want to create artificial scarcity and rip-off Nigerians,” Soneye said.

NNPC’s clarification comes amidst heightened concerns over fuel availability and supply. The Old Port Harcourt Refinery had been re-streamed recently as part of efforts to bolster domestic refining capacity and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.

NNPC reiterated its resolve to maintain steady operations at the facility, assuring Nigerians of its commitment to meeting the nation’s energy needs.

The statement was issued from NNPC’s headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
