The Nigeria Police Force, under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has officially resumed the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) nationwide through a secure, user-friendly digital platform — www.possap.gov.ng.

This reactivation, announced amidst rising concerns over unlawful harassment of motorists by law enforcement officers, aims to provide clarity and transparency in the regulation of factory-fitted tinted glass on vehicles a statement signed by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Force Public Relations Officer noted.

It acknowledges the reality of modern automobile manufacturing standards while maintaining the imperative of public safety.

Over the years, vehicles with tinted windows have been misused for criminal activities including kidnappings, armed robbery, and the notorious “one-chance” operations the statement further revealed.

And added that, these abuses compromise police visibility and undermine law enforcement efforts. In response, the digital TGP system is designed to strike a balance — identifying legitimate users such as individuals with health conditions or security-related duties while preventing criminal exploitation.

The revamped system integrates identity verification through the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), and includes biometric data capture and thorough background checks. Successful applicants will receive QR-coded digital permits, processed within 72 hours of submission.

To facilitate a seamless transition, the Inspector-General of Police has approved a 30-day grace period beginning May 1, 2025. Motorists are urged to comply within this window as enforcement will commence at its conclusion.

The Force has also issued a stern warning to officers against unprofessional conduct during enforcement. Any personnel found guilty of extortion or harassment will face disciplinary action in line with established procedures.

Reaffirming his commitment to a citizen-focused and technology-driven policing approach, IGP Egbetokun called on Nigerians to embrace the new permit system. According to him, the initiative is not only a step toward safer roads but a foundation for restoring public trust and strengthening national security.

For more details or to begin the application process, motorists are advised to visit www.possap.gov.ng the statement signed by Adejobi concluded.
