The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups threatening to stage protests capable of breaching public peace over the arrest and prosecution of Princess God’sown Udoito, insisting that the matter is already before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The police said it has taken note of reports and public statements suggesting plans to mount actions aimed at pressuring authorities and influencing the judicial process, stressing that such conduct is unlawful and will not be tolerated.

According to the Command, any attempt to intimidate the judiciary or disrupt legal proceedings through threats, protests or other forms of unlawful conduct runs contrary to the rule of law and poses a risk to public order in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force operates strictly within the confines of the law, noting that arrests and prosecutions are carried out only after due investigation and in line with existing legal provisions.

While acknowledging the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, the police warned that these rights do not extend to actions capable of undermining public safety, morality or order.

Specifically, the Command cautioned against threats or acts of nude protests, unlawful occupation of public or private facilities, disruption of government, economic or social activities, and any conduct likely to lead to a breakdown of peace in the state.

The police said any individual or group found engaging in or attempting such acts would be promptly arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Command advised all aggrieved persons to pursue their concerns through legal and civil channels and to allow the courts to determine the matter, rather than resorting to actions capable of escalating tension.

It reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged residents of Akwa Ibom State to remain calm, law-abiding and to refrain from any act capable of disturbing the peace currently enjoyed in the state.
