Man of style carving a niche out of helping to understand the dos and don’t in achieving the best of fashion Kunle Bakare, the Chief Executive Officer at Omoluwabi by KB, tells some of the telling things to adopt in the narrative with the header “Know your body type, upgrade your style (1)”.

The enlightener reads…

If the only thing you ‘know for sure’ (one of the most arresting phrases coined by Oprah Winfrey, the iconic American media mogul whose grass to grace story sounds like a fairy tale) in dressing to win is fit, you have a huge head start!

It is one of the most important elements in high fashion and style.

And renowned designers highlighted, more than any other element, how we must ensure that our duds serenade our frame.

Please, listen up:

o “The fit of a garment is the most important thing. If it doesn’t fit, it’s not worth wearing.”

–Giorgio Armani (the Italian fashion colossus who turns 90 on July 11 founded his eponymous international brand known for its minimalist and androgynous modes in 1975).

o “Clothes that fit well are the key to a successful wardrobe. They make you feel confident, stylish, and ready to take on the day.”

–Ralph Lauren (the 84 year-old American worth $8.8 billion started out selling ties in 1967, and launched Polo in 1968).

o “The right fit is the most important thing in fashion. It can make or break an outfit.”

–Vera Wang (the leader by kilometres in bridal wear is 75 this year).

o “Fit is the most important aspect of fashion. If it doesn’t fit, it’s not fashionable.”

–Donatella Versace (the 69 year old younger sister of Gianni Versace, who was murdered in 1997, took over the business and made a success of it).

o “Clothes should be like a second skin, comfortable and effortless.”

–Stella McCartney (the daughter of English pop megastar Paul McCartney propagates fur-free and leather-free items).

o “The fit of a garment is what makes it beautiful. If it doesn’t fit, it’s not beautiful.”

–Alexander McQueen (the English designer, 1969–2010, who moved from Koji Tatsuno to Romeo Gigli and Givenchy, started his brand in 1992).

o “Clothes that fit well are the foundation of a great wardrobe. They make you feel confident, stylish, and ready to take on the day.”

–Tommy Hilfiger (the master of preppy clothing style with the green eyelet trademark has grown bigger than envisaged since he went public in 1992).

So, once you know this fundamental element of dressing for your body type to raise your game, the rest is easy.

Ladies and gentlemen, here are the major body types (though there are far more categories because of the diversity in peculiar shapes of peoples around the world).

For ladies:

1. Hour glass (curvier bosom and hips, narrower waist).

2. Pear (bigger hips and thighs, narrower upper body)

3. Apple (slimmer hips, thighs, bosom and heavier waist)

4. Rectangle (bosom, waist, hip and thighs are the same size)

5. Inverted triangle (larger bosom, smaller waist and thighs)

Gentlemen are categorized slightly differently:

1. Ectomorph (lanky, with little flesh and muscle)

2. Mesomorph (athletic and muscular)

3. Endomorph (rounded and big)

4. Rectangular (minimal curves)

5. Triangular (large chest and smaller waist)
