Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun state is certainly not as politically naive as many assumed.

”And this is certainly apparent in the trap he has set for Amosun(his predecessor)” societynow.ng learned.

societynow.ng gathered that Governor Abiodun has put in place a structure that would greatly hurt Amosun’s political fortune by knocking him out in his political base.

Sources confirmed that in the very futuristic move – with possible immediate gains to the bargain- Abiodun has named three of Amosun’s former strongmen turned foes commissioners in his new cabinet.

The three men, with strong grassroots clout, are from Ogun Central – the same constituency as Amosun.

The men are Afolabi Afuape, Ganiyu Hamzat, and Oludotun Taiwo.
Afuape, a former commissioner in the cabinet of Amosun fell out with the immediate past governor of Ogun state over refusal to defect to rival Allied People’s Movement.

”Afuape told Amosun he wasn’t ready to join APM and pitched his tent with Dapo Abiodun to the consternation of Amosun” societynow.ng learned.
”He actually told Amosun to lead the lead way to APM or leave them (the supporters) to make their choices” a source stated.

Ganiyu Hamzat, the elder brother to the deputy governor of Lagos state Obafemi Hamzat and Oludotun Taiwo are well-known politicians with enormous grassroots support in Ogun Central and its environs.

”They amassed support with big spendings and identifying with the locals. These guys (Oludotun and Hamzat) were the backbone of the Amosun political machinery, transferring allegiance to Abiodun is bad enough for Amosun but for the governor to empower them to passionately work against Amosun is worse. Its doomsday coming for Amosun in his base these three men, that’s adding Afuape to the team, stick together and wage a relentless campaign against him” a source pointed.

Societynow.ng learned that this is the game plan of governor Dapo Abiodun, to get Amosun’s estranged big guns to render him ”politically useless” and ”unelectable” in his base.

Former governor Amosun – now a senator from Ogun Central – has become a major political thorn in the sides of Abiodun, threatening his rise at different corners.

This ploy has been used against powerful political figures in Ogun Central including former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo ( the daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo) and the former speaker of the Federal House of Representatives Dimeji Bankole (he is yet to recover from the ouster) societynow.ng learned.

Insiders interpret the move to mean that governor Abiodun is planning well ahead of time for his second term by putting in place – and empowering – a band of loyalists with a strong presence to work for him and protect his interests in vital areas where he needs strong political presence for an easy ride.
