In a recent interview, Kemi Adeoye, the Chief Financial Officer of Honeywell Group (HGL), highlighted key metrics that companies can adopt to foster a culture of equity in their operations. She touched on important issues like stereotypes and equity in the workplace while answering questions from Her Network, a global inspiration and lifestyle platform.

Kemi pointed out that although stereotypes against women have been perpetuated for centuries, accepting them not only undermines the capabilities and potential of women and girls, but also contributes to gender inequality and discrimination in the society and workplace. “It’s important to never let other people’s perceptions shape how you see yourself, or to act in a certain way only to please them. Rather, it is essential to be confident in one’s abilities and expertise”, she advised.

Shedding light on how her responsibilities within Honeywell Group contribute to embracing equity, she said, “I ensure that the businesses Honeywell Group invests in and builds are inclusive and support women in a way that aligns to the values of our organisation

While noting that there isn’t one universal approach for measuring equity in the workplace, Kemi encouraged leaders to set structures in place that keep them in check beyond steering conversations. She said, “regular evaluations of inclusion metrics, including hiring and promotion rates, and pay equity could be used to achieve this. Leaders need to also implement policies and practices such as flexible work arrangements and mentorship. By doing this, they can create a workplace where all workers feel appreciated, respected, and encouraged to deliver their best work.”

Kemi Adeoye is currently responsible for accounting, financial reporting, and financial management for HGL. She is also responsible for risk management and ensuring the adequacy and efficiency of controls and internal audit across the Group.

She has close to 20 years of work experience spanning, finance, accounting, and corporate treasury management. In 2006, she joined HGL as a Senior Business Analyst, working across business functions over time.

Kemi Adeoye holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Oxford Brookes University and an MBA from the Lagos Business School. She is also a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
