Insiders have provided context to reports of the emergence of Musiliu Akinsanya as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

“The election marked his successful emergence as the candidate of the Southwest region for the position; it is a prelude to his emergence as National President,” sources say.

Checks revealed that the position of National President of the transport union has been zoned to the Southwest, and it is a constitutional requirement—according to the guidelines of the union—that a candidate must first be adopted by their region.

Saturday’s election, which produced the former Lagos State chairman, famously known as MC Oluomo, as “national president” at the union’s zonal secretariat in Osun State, fulfills this condition, sources confirm.

The election, observed by Acting National President Alliyu Issa-Ore, drew delegates from the four Southwest states of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti, in accordance with the guidelines of the union.

Tajudeen Agbede (a former Lagos State chairman) and Akeem Adeosun (ex-chairman in Ogun State, popularly known as Jango) were also elected Vice-President, Southwest, and Trustee, respectively.

“It now remains for the national headquarters to ratify his election by his region as National President,” insiders disclosed.
