Customs Lagos Free Trade Zone Gets Commendation For ₦253bn Revenue In 4 Months
for generating over ₦253 billion in revenue within the first four months of 2026.
The Zonal Coordinator in charge of Zone ‘A’, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Mohammed Babandede, has commended the Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) Command for generating over ₦253 billion in revenue within the first four months of 2026.
Speaking during an official working visit to the Command on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, ACG Babandede praised officers and men of the Command for their dedication and urged them to maintain integrity, professionalism, and honesty in the discharge of their duties.
“Please maintain your integrity. On behalf of the CGC, we are proud of the achievement you have recorded, and we know you are equal to the task”, he said.
The ACG also reassured officers that the Service’s leadership under the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, remained committed to improving staff welfare by providing better accommodation and improved access to healthcare.
“The CGC is passionate about your welfare. We are ensuring that all officers posted to this zone are well accommodated. And also hospitals will be available very soon for those of you that are taking over, so that at least each officer, including the retired officers, can access a healthcare facility,” he stated.
In her remarks, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller of Customs, Hauwa Abubakar, described the visit as a major source of motivation to officers and men of the Command.
She disclosed that the Command generated ₦253,385,539,061.88 between January and April 2026, compared to ₦179,869,059,647.00 recorded within the same period in 2025. “This indicates a significant revenue increase of ₦73,516,479,414.88k, which represents a 40.87% increase. Beyond revenue generation, the Command has remained committed to promoting trade facilitation while ensuring strict regulatory compliance in line with extant government fiscal policies and the vision of the CGC.”
As part of the visit, the ACG toured the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Lagos Free Trade Zones Headquarters, where he met with stakeholders and operators within the zone.
The Zonal Coordinator expressed satisfaction with feedback from investors and partners, saying, “I’m so happy, I’m so fulfilled because what we are telling the officers is always to ensure the growth of this zone, ensure that they work diligently with the operators. And they’re happy with what the customs is doing”, he concluded.
